Welcome to the February edition of the Water Polo NSW Member Newsletter! It’s been a fast-paced start to the year with the Open Country Championships, the return of the Summer Metro Season, and the excitement of Super League. We’ve also released our new Coaching Handbook and welcomed Felipe Perone for episode four of our podcast.

Looking ahead, February brings the Junior Country Club Championships and the Masters Championships - two highlights we can’t wait to share with you.

Coaching Handbook

We have launched the Water Polo NSW Coaching Handbook. 

The handbook is a statewide initiative designed to strengthen coach education, athlete development and alignment across the sport, as part of the WPNSW Strategic Re-Set (2024–2025).

WPNSW Podcast Episode Four
Open Country Club Championships

From 23–25 February, we hosted the Open Country Clubs Championships in Albury across Albury Aquatic Centre and Wodonga Waves. The event brought together clubs from across regional New South Wales for a highly competitive and successful tournament.

We would like to congratulate all participating clubs on a fantastic competition across all divisions. This year once again saw strong team entries, highlighting the continued growth, depth, and enthusiasm for water polo throughout regional NSW.

Junior Country Club Championships

The Junior Country Club Championships are about to get underway, with talented country junior players from across the state set to compete in what promises to be an exciting showcase of skill and sportsmanship. All Junior Country Club medal matches will be live streamed, giving families, friends and supporters the chance to follow every key moment via the WPNSW YouTube Channel.

Big Orange U12 Festival

Entries for the popular Big Orange U12 Festival close on Tuesday 10 February. The festival is open to both Metro and Regional clubs and is a fantastic opportunity for young players to get involved and enjoy the game.

No Limits Sports are looking for a junior school water polo coach in North Sydney.

Training is 7-8am on Monday, with games on Saturday mornings.

Supporting Coaches in Practice Workshop

The Australian Sports Commission in partnership with the Office of Sport are accepting expressions of interest in a free Supporting Coaches in Practice training program.

Supporting Coaches & Officials in Practiceworkshop – 17 & 18 Feb, 6:30 - 9:30pm, Rugby Australia Offices, Moore Park, Sydney

  • Free 2.5-hour eLearning course required as pre-learning  Supporting Coaches in Practice | Australian Sports Commission
  • Two 3-hour evening workshops – no cost to participate
  • Focus: Developing/mentoring coaches on the job using coach-centred approaches and feedback models
  • Provided: Supper, refreshments and resources

If the workshop becomes full then the next to register will be placed on the waitlist for future workshops to be help in Sydney.
