Welcome to the March edition of the Water Polo NSW Member Newsletter! February has been a busy month with the Junior Country Club Championships, the announcement of our Futures Programme and Masters Championships. We have also had a couple of rounds of Super League and of course the Summer Metro.

Looking ahead, March sees the wrap-up of the summer season, with the Big Orange U12 Festival and Grand Finals of the Metro Season and Super League.

NSW Women’s Futures Development Squad

In partnership with the NSW Institute of Sport and with endorsement from Water Polo Australia, we are proud to announce the NSW Women’s Futures Development Squad.  

The NSW Women’s Futures Development Squad, aligned to the WPA High Performance Strategy, WPNSW Strategic Plan and WPA Strategic Plan, is a key initiative within the NSW female water polo pathway, designed to accelerate the growth of emerging female athletes and strengthen the state’s high-performance pathway.

February's Events

Masters Championships

From 20-22 February, we proudly hosted the 2026 Masters Championships in Tamworth, uniting masters athletes from across the state for a vibrant and highly competitive weekend of water polo. The three-day event delivered an outstanding showcase of talent, camaraderie and community spirit, reaffirming the strength and growth of the sport within the masters category.

Junior Country Club Championships

We hosted the Junior Country Clubs Championships from 6–8 February, on the Central Coast across Peninsula Leisure Centre, Woy Woy, Gosford Olympic Swimming Pool and Wyong Olympic Pool. The event brought together junior clubs from across regional New South Wales for a highly competitive and successful tournament. 

A huge congratulations to all participating clubs on a fantastic competition across all divisions. 

We would also like to extend its thanks to Central Coast Association, all players, parents, referees, volunteers, and club officials whose passion and dedication contributed to the success of the championships.

Big Orange U12 Festival

This weekend we hold our last event of the 2025-26 season - Big Orange U12 Festival. This festival is a development carnival for our younger athletes across the state and a fantatic opportunity for referee assessments, helping to increase the development of referees.

We look forward to seeing everyone in Orange, but if you are unable to make it you can follow us on Facebook and Instagram to keep up to date with the event.

Summer Metro Grand Finals

Water Polo NSW will share a Grand Finals Metro Information Brief week commencing 9 March.

Please come down to the venues to watch some great games of water polo and support the clubs competing across the finals series.

Pathways

Performance Pathways Coordinator Vacancy

We are currently recruiting for a Performance Pathways Coordinator to join our team.

We are looking for someone with high level communication skills (both written and oral), a strong member service focus and the ability to liaise with athletes, coaches, parents, and other stakeholders at all levels. Also required is well-developed computer skills and IT literacy, ideally with an understanding of database management and online registration systems.

Sydney Stingers Beach 4s

Sunday 15 March | Manly Cove

Sydney Stingers are back at Manly Cove on Sunday 15 March for our Beach Water Polo 4s tournament, a fast, social day of ocean polo, great games and strong community energy.

Beach 4s is a high-tempo format of the sport. Small teams, short matches, plenty of action. Whether you’re chasing a competitive edge or just keen for a fun game with friends, there’s a division for you.

As NSW’s LGBTQIA+ inclusive water polo club, we’re proud to host events where everyone can show up as themselves and feel part of the action. Beach 4s brings together players from across Sydney and beyond for a welcoming, community-first day in the sun.

Two all-gender divisions

  • Competitive
  • Recreational

Entry

  • $400 per team (4–8 players)
  • $70 individual entry, you’ll be placed into a team

Expect ocean swims, close games, music on the sand, and great vibes.

Coffs Harbour U12 Banana Bowl

On 28 February & 1 March Coffs Harbour held their annual U12 Banana Bowl water polo tournament.
