Super League Week Two Round-Up

Week two of Water Polo NSW’s Super League 2025-26 season saw four teams start their campaign. Wins for Sydney Uni and UTS Balmain see them top the women’s ladder, and UNSWWests Magpies, Cronulla and Drummoyne are all on a 100% win ratio in the men’s. 

Women 

UNSW Wests Killer Whales 4 – 23 Sydney University 

Sydney Uni won the battle of the universities with a dominant game over UNSW Wests Killer Whales, withall of theiroutfield players getting on the score card. 

Samantha Henderson, Alexie Lambert, Sammy Hardingham, Bernadette Doyle and Ebony Nash all scored a hattrick 

Daisy Carter, who scored four goals for UNSW Wests in the first round, was also able to get on the score card, scoring two of the Killer Whales goals. 

Hunter Hurricanes 9 – 14 Drummoyne 

Drummoyne won their first game of the 2025 – 26 season with an away trip to Hunter Hurricanes. 

Dorottoya Telek started the scoring for Drummoyne, and continued to do so, scoring eight of Drummoyne’s goals to help them secure the win. 

Dayna Garside added four goals to the five she scored last week against UNSW Wests, but they weren’t enough to give Hunter Hurricanes the win. 

Cronulla 6 – 12 UTSBalmain 

UTS Balmain started their title defence in winning ways. 

Georgia Chapman, who has represented Australia at the U20’s World Championships, was the top scorer with three goals. 

Last year’s Pat Jones Award winner Olivia Mitchell also scored two goals for UTS Balmain in their win over the Sharks. 

Claire Durston was voted by her peers as the MVP for Cronulla. 

Drummoyne 5 – 15 UTS Balmain 

Drummoyne were unable to replicate their win on Saturday when they went against UTS Balmain on Sunday. 

Lily Dunnscored an impressive five goals for UTS Balmain and Olivia Mitchell scored two goals to add to her two the day before. 

Men 

UNSW Wests Magpies 15 – 7 Sydney University 

UNSW Wests Magpies continued their winning ways with a dominant display against their university counterparts, helping to keep their win ratio at 100%. 

Tom McJannett and Matthew Byrnesboth scored three goals for the Wests, against Sydney Uni goalkeeper debutant Jack Dwyer. 

Hunter Hurricanes 8 – 17 Drummoyne 

Drummoyne started the season off with a win away to Hunter Hurricanes. 

Spencer Burdack and Orlando Minaboth scored hattricks for Drummoyne, with Hunter Wright and Jake Robinsonboth scoring three for Hunter Hurricanes. 

Hunter Hurricanes have now lost both of their opening games so will be looking for a win next weekend against New Zealand. 

Cronulla 13 – 9 UTS Balmain 

Cronulla came out on top of a close game against UTS Balmain at Sutherland Leisure Centre. 

Nicholas Crowe and Daniel Lawrence were joint top scorers, both scoring three goals. 

Danny Kerr was MVP for Cronulla with one goal and three assists. 

Drummoyne 10 – 4 UTS Balmain 

Drummoyne continued their success at Hunter Hurricanes when they faced UTS Balmain on Sunday. 

Spencer Burdack continued scoring goals, hitting the back of the net twice to help put his team at the top of the table.
